Faculty of Engineering

The Faculty of Engineering of Sri Lanka Institute of Information technology is the epicenter of engineering education, research, knowledge creation and distribution in Sri Lanka.

Computer Vision/Industrial Automation

The advancement of technologies in the area of electronics and automation have produced very cost effective embedded hardware and vision related equipment. The convergence of these technologies open a vast research area which can benefit and uplift living conditions of humans. For example this convergence can produce applications ranging form vision based medical electronics, vision based automated intelligent vehicles, road condition monitoring, automating manufacturing processes, vision based HCI systems, to more simpler implementations such as vision based power saving in mobile electronic devices to name a few. Developing algorithms which can be implemented in embedded platforms that manipulate vision equipment is the current focus of the research group.

Sustainable Built Environment

Sustainability often reflects upon utilizing and preserving the resources of the planet without compromising the ability of the future generations’ ability to do the same. Significant amount of natural resources and energy is utilized by built environment Industry and it is crucial to work on solutions that can reduce the carbon emission that lead to a more sustainable world.

Sustainable Built Environment Research Group @ SLIIT is an interdisciplinary research group and focuses on developing sustainable solutions for Civil Engineering problems of national and international importance. With four research themes namely Green Materials for Construction, Structural Health Monitoring, Road Safety, water quality/treatment and Landslide monitoring and early warning, the research group engages in research projects that would make sustainability a reality in built environment.
